IPods for 3 year olds

In Weston County, they have placed Ipods into preschool classrooms. These IPods were preloaded with learning applications before they were placed into the classroom. The applications were suppose to help with numbers, colors, animals....etc. The students were given no information on how to use them.
I have mixed feelings. I think this is pretty cool. However, I don't know that students need "tethered" to technology at that early age. What do you guys think?
